Volunteers are the backbone of the festival, ensuring that events run smoothly, guests feel welcome, and the festival is an inclusive, accessible, and enjoyable experience for all. Below are the roles available and what each involves.

Event Assistance

Role Overview:
Support the smooth running of performances, workshops, and social events.

    • Assist with setting up and packing down event spaces.
    • Provide guidance to attendees (directions, seating, program info).
    • Help manage crowd flow and ensure a safe environment.
    • Assist performers and speakers with stage logistics.

Great for: People who enjoy being active and supporting behind-the-scenes logistics.

Accessibility Support

Role Overview:

Ensure all festival spaces and events remain fully accessible for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and disabled attendees.

    • Assist with Auslan tour groups and wayfinding.
    • Provide seating support for Deafblind attendees.
    • Ensure priority seating areas are maintained.
    • Help direct attendees to accessible toilets, ramps, and quiet spaces.
    • Assist with communication (basic Auslan skills helpful but not required).

Great for: Those passionate about accessibility and inclusive event experiences.

Registration & Guest Services

Role Overview:
Be the friendly face of the festival, helping attendees check in and get information.

    • Assist with ticketing and wristband collection.
    • Answer general festival questions and provide event schedules.
    • Direct attendees to their events or meeting points.
    • Help maintain an inclusive, welcoming atmosphere at the festival.

Great for: Friendly, approachable people who enjoy interacting with others.

Social Media & Content Creation

Role Overview:
Capture festival highlights and share the excitement with the community!

    • Assist in taking photos and videos for festival social media.
    • Live-update Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter/X.
    • Record behind-the-scenes moments and attendee testimonials.
    • Assist in basic captioning and visual descriptions for accessibility.

Great for: Creatives, photographers, or social media enthusiasts!

Hospitality & Logistics

Role Overview:
Support catering, logistics, and event organisation to keep everything running smoothly.

    • Help with food and drink distribution (e.g., BBQ event, green room snacks).
    • Assist vendors and market stall coordinators.
    • Keep festival areas tidy and well-organised.
    • Provide general event assistance as needed.

Great for: Those who enjoy hands-on work and keeping things well-organised!

Tour Support

Role Overview:
Assist Auslan tour guides in delivering an engaging and educational experience.

    • Help manage tour groups (ensuring no one gets left behind).
    • Assist with interpreters, DeafBlind attendees, and mobility access.
    • Provide directions and answer basic questions from tour participants.
    • Ensure quiet areas and visual access are maintained for all participants.

Great for: Those who enjoy guiding, engaging with visitors, and supporting educational experiences.

    • Follow accessibility guidelines – Help create a barrier-free experience for all attendees.
    • Communicate – Talk to the festival team if you need support or have concerns.
