International Special Guests at the Deaf Queer Festival!

Selena Minogue & Casavina
Deaf Drag Queens | Comedy Duo | Latinx Trailblazers
United States of America

Get ready, Australia! Deafies in Drag, the internationally renowned Deaf Latinx drag duo, are making their way to the Deaf Queer Festival as our exclusive international special guests!

Selena Minogue and Casavina are not your average queens – they’re bold, hilarious, and unapologetically Deaf and proud. With beat faces, death drops, lip-syncing, killer reads, and tongue pops, they bring a unique and electrifying presence to the world of drag. But what sets them apart is their ability to blend comedy, culture, and Deaf experience into powerful storytelling.

Hailing from USA, this viral sensation has captivated audiences worldwide through their wildly popular YouTube channel, which blends drag, comedy, and educational content about Deaf culture. They create skits, play games, and break down misconceptions about being Deaf, all with a side of glamour and outrageous humor.

But their journey didn’t start on the stage – it began at Gallaudet University, the only Deaf university in the world. It was there that they met, fell in love, and discovered their shared passion for filmmaking, acting, art, and, of course, drag. What started as a fun creative outlet soon turned into a global movement, empowering both the Deaf and LGBTIQA+ communities through visibility and representation.

From Viral Sensation to Global Drag Icons

Selena Minogue

Named after two of her favorite icons, Selena Quintanilla and Kylie Minogue, Selena is an incredible storyteller, with a knack for expressing emotions through exaggerated facial expressions. She’s also a talented artist, specialising in painting, drawing, sewing, wig-making, and jewelry design.

Casavina

With a name that translates to “House of Wine” in Spanish (inspired by Amy Winehouse), Casavina brings filmmaking and video editing skills to their creative projects. Growing up trilingual (ASL, English, and Spanish), she naturally became a bridge between cultures and languages, incorporating that into their performances.

Breaking Barriers, One Performance at a Time

Being Deaf and drag performers in a hearing-dominated industry comes with challenges. But Selena and Casavina turn those obstacles into art – using comedy to educate and empower.

“The Deaf community isn’t strongly exposed to drag and LGBTIQA+ culture, and the LGBTIQA+ community isn’t strongly aware of Deaf people. We try to bring both worlds together while celebrating our Latinx heritage.” – Deafies in Drag

Their performances are a celebration of identity, tackling topics like oppression, discrimination, and misconceptions about Deaf people, all while serving fierce looks and flawless comedic timing. They make people laugh, think, and question the status quo – all in the same breath.

A Message of Inspiration & Strength

Selena: “The best thing about being Deaf is the Deaf community. Meeting people worldwide who share similar experiences has been so powerful.”

Casavina: “Being Deaf has taught me resilience and creativity. Life throws barriers at you, but there’s always a way around them.”

Selena: “Don’t let being disabled define you. Be yourself and do what you love!”

Casavina: “Nothing comes easy, but commitment and passion can make anything possible!”
