The Deaf Queer Festival is committed to creating a fully inclusive, accessible, and welcoming event for all attendees, performers, and participants. We recognize the diverse needs of our community and strive to remove barriers so that everyone can fully participate and enjoy the festival.

Below is an overview of the accessibility features we have in place.

Auslan Interpretation & Deaf Accessibility

  • All performances, workshops, and talks will be conducted in Auslan or have professional Auslan interpreters
  • Visual storytelling and Deaf-led performances ensure that Deaf audiences can fully engage without reliance on spoken language.
  • Auslan-guided tours will be available for all major festival locations and exhibitions.
  • All event announcements will be provided in Auslan and English, including pre-recorded video updates.

Neurodivergent & Sensory-Friendly Features

  • Quiet zones will be set up in key areas for those needing a break from sensory stimulation.
  • Event schedules will include clear descriptions of lighting, sound levels, and potential sensory triggers.
  • Social scripts and accessibility maps will be available for attendees who prefer structured event planning.

Visual Descriptions & Captioning

  • Live captioning (CART) and on-screen text will be available for selected workshops and presentations.
  • Video content and promotional materials will include captions and visual descriptions.
  • Large print programs and digital guides will be available for attendees who require them.

Wheelchair & Mobility Access

  • All festival venues are wheelchair accessible, including ramps, lifts, and accessible seating in performance spaces.
  • Accessible toilets will be available at all venues.
  • Priority seating will be available for attendees who need it.
  • Volunteers will be available to assist with navigation and venue access.

Inclusivity & Safe Spaces

  • The festival is a proudly Queer and Trans-inclusive space—we respect and celebrate all gender identities and expressions.
  • Gender-neutral bathrooms will be available at festival venues.
  • Our team is trained in inclusive communication and accessibility awareness to support all attendees.
